About the Artist

Mary Lynn O'SheaMary Lynn O’Shea lives near Middlebury, Vermont with her husband, Steve and dog, Riley. Their son, Brendan, lives and works in Portland, OR, and daughter Molly is currently working in Mary’s studio. After receiving her MFA in textiles, she taught college for 5 years, and since then has been creating and selling her art at shows throughout the United States.

"The fabrics you see on this website are the culmination of 40 years of working in weaving and color theory. The fabrics are woven on Jacquard looms here in the United States especially for me. The color combinations and patterns have grown and changed and have been reworked for years.

At Art shows, customers always ask me where I buy my fabrics. I respond – “I don’t buy them, I create them.”

Mary Lynn O'SheaI initially made garments, which I still sell at Art shows throughout the United States. You can see the garments on my clothing website (marylynnoshea.com).

When I started creating and using upholstery weight fabrics for my jackets, I got the idea of making a line of upholstered furniture. This seemed like a logical next step in the creative process. I found a furniture maker in North Carolina to make the maple frames, as I wanted the structure of the furniture to reflect the excellence of the fabric. Thus, Molly Rose Designs was born. (named after my daughter, Molly Rose.)

I have been very fortunate to make a living doing what I love. Through this website I hope to be able to continue creating and making art but also be able to engage my customers in the creative process."
